Announcement: Macdonough STEM School Video
Macdonough School is in the process of creating a school video to highlight all of our STEM interdisciplinary instruction with hands-on activities and real world connections. We would like to interview community members and families to share their child’s positive learning experiences at Macdonough. If you are interested in being interviewed, please contact Lauren Mikulak via email mikulakl@mpsct.org.
Engineer of the Month
Our Engineer of the Month is Ca’Chae Green in Mrs. Walsh’s first grade class. Ca’Chae has been exploring sound and light through different classroom experiences. In this specific lesson, Ca’Chae used a variety of materials to listen to different sounds. She used the Engineering Design Process to ask questions. She concluded that sound is made by vibrations. Keep up the great work, Ca’Chae!
2021 Connecticut Invention Convention
Students who are in fourth and fifth grade at Macdonough have the opportunity to participate in the 2021 Connecticut Invention Convention. This year’s event is virtual. Students are required to create a prototype of a unique and new invention they created, submit an invention timeline log, perform independent research, create a visual display, and a video for presenters. This is a great opportunity for students to show off their creativity at home. If your child is interested in participating, please contact John Ferrero at ferreroj@mpsct.org.
STEM Logos in Art
Ms. Sestero’s fourth and fifth graders are using the Engineering Design Process to create STEM logos for our school. They have been working hard to plan, create, and improve their logos. We plan to scan these logos and create decals to decorate the school. Check out these students in action! Be on the lookout on our school twitter, @MacdSchool, for more pictures of their progress!
