Students at Macdonough School are exposed to interdisciplinary units of study that have at their foundation a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
Students are provided the opportunity to become independent learners and thinkers through Project-Based Learning.
All of our projects focus on the Engineering Design Process in order to solve real-world problems.
Our Engineer of the Month is Molly from Mrs. Barnes’ 5th grade class! Molly have been chosen as our Engineer of the Month because she is always asking questions and further investigating real world problems. Molly enjoys learning about different topics in science, and loves learning about the school garden with Farmer Jenna. Molly encourages her peers to think outside of the box and takes her time to carefully plan solutions or projects. Keep up the great work, Molly!
This month, our produce of the month will be potatoes! Students will be getting local potatoes from White Gate Farm in East Lyme, CT as a side in their school lunch this month. Potatoes, which grow underground, can be harvested in late winter.
Fourth grade students will be presenting their invention for the Invention Convention on March 10, 2022. We are welcoming outside guests to serve as judges to determine which inventions succeed to the next round. If you are a parent and would like to visit, we welcome you from 2-4 pm on Thursday, March 10th to view the inventions during conferences. Please email Lauren Mikulak if you are interested in visiting via email mikulakl@mpsct.org.
